Timilty appointed to Senate Ways and Means Committee

From Senator Timilty's office:
BOSTON –
Senator Jim Timilty (D-Walpole) is proud to announce that Senate President Therese Murray has appointed him to the Senate Committee on Ways and Means Tuesday.  The Senate Committee on Ways and Means is the standing committee in the Senate primarily responsible for considering all matters relative to the finances of the Commonwealth.

“I am honored that Senate President Murray has seen fit to allow me to serve on the Senate Committee on Ways and Means,” said Senator Timilty.  “My committee assignments have provided me with the perfect opportunity to advocate for my district and focus on public safety, economic development, job creation, tax policy, and giving local officials the tools they need to thrive.”

In addition to his new position on Senate Ways and Means, Senator Timilty also serves as the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security and the Vice Chairman on the Joint Committee on Revenue, while also serving on the Joint Committees on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure, Municipalities and Regional Government, Public Health and recently on the Special Joint Committee on Redistricting.

“My committee assignments complement each other perfectly,” said Senator Timilty, adding, “I am excited to bring my unique perspective to this new position and identify efficiencies where we may hope to save the tax payer money and focus on maintaining local aid funding levels.”

The Legislature will soon begin the process of scheduling public hearings to discuss the upcoming FY2013 Budget.  Governor Patrick is expected to release his version of the budget on Wednesday, with the House of Representatives slated to release theirs in April.
